Big Bend National Park in Texas is, well… big (no surprise - it’s in Texas, after all).
And hot. While we were there (in February) it was 37C hot. That’s hot for us wimpy West Coast Canadians.
But it was beautiful. And fascinating. Even though it’s a park, there’s so much history - right on the Rio Grande and just a few feet away from Mexico.
We could have taken a a boat, or frankly waded as it was so shallow, across the Rio Grande to the village of Boquillas del Carmen in the Mexican state of Coahuila, but the passport control center was closed by the time we arrived, so we just took some photos. Apparently, though, the Mexicans cross all the time, not matter if the border crossing center is open or not. They leave their little trinkets for tourists to buy, even though it is illegal (we did not buy anything).
