Marfa, Texas is an unassuming desert town with a population of about 1,800. Surprisingly, it has an impressive art scene and a lively LGBTQ community (yes, in Texas!), but is mostly known for its strange phenomenon of the “Marfa Lights”.
No one knows exactly what the Marfa Lights are. Atmospheric refractions of car lights from the highway in the distance? Bioluminescent gas discharges? UFO’s? There has been no explanation for the mystery lights that Marfa residents and visitors have been seeing since at least 1883.
We stopped for a night, and watched for these mystery lights from two different locations, but did not see anything that looked out of the ordinary.
Maybe we needed more wine.
