The Outer Banks are a 320km (200 mile) string of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, and a very popular place for tourists. We, being tourists, simply had to visit, right?

What most enticed us to visit is the fact that this was the place where Orville and Wilbur Wright took their first flight in the Wright Flyer, aka Kitty Hawk on December 17, 1903. Imagine standing at the very spot where the first ever airplane took off and flew an unprecedented 120 feet in 12 seconds! Look how far we’ve come in just 120 years - tourists today fly into outer space.
